Welcome to the University of Utah!
The J-1 Exchange Visitor Program at the University of Utah is the main resource for all University host departments, as well as scholars (professors, researchers, and student interns) visiting for an appointment on a J-1 visa. The Exchange Visitor Program was designed to promote the exchange of knowledge and skills among foreign and American scholars. It does so by providing foreign scholars the opportunity to share ideas with their American colleagues, participate in educational and professional programs, confer on common problems and projects, and promote professional relationships. This may be accomplished through research, lecture, observation, consulting, and participating in seminars, workshops, conferences, study, professional meetings, or similar types of educational and professional activities.
The Exchange Visitor Scholar Team serves as a liaison to all applicable agencies and departments related to the visa status and visit of an Exchange Visitor scholar. This includes University of Utah host departments, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), and the U.S. Department of State, the government agency that has oversight of the Exchange Program. The Scholar Team’s role in the Exchange Program at the University covers many aspects, including issuance of the DS-2019, providing pre-arrival information, conducing orientation, advising on visa rules and regulations, promoting cultural exchange, and helping to ensure an environment of health, safety, and welfare for all exchange visitors.
To departments, we look forward to working with you to invite exchange visitors to campus, and to exchange visitors, we look forward to your stay and hope you will enjoy your time at the U!
