University: University of Utah, Salt Lake City
Education level: Sophomore
Major: Finance
Home country: Vietnam

Minh is a sophomore in Finance at the University of Utah. Minh previously went to school in Maine and has lived in the United States for the past three years. A large factor in Minh’s decision to study at the University of Utah is the renowned David Eccles School of Business. Currently, Minh is involved in the Business Scholars Program and has an accounting internship at the U of U.

Minh loves that the U of U has so many activities and programs with which students can get involved. He believes there are clubs and programs for everyone at the U of U and feels that everyone is very nice and welcoming. Particularly for International Students, Minh recommends students be open to ask for help and reach out to different student clubs and organizations to enhance their student experience at the U. Furthermore, Minh recommends that international student maintain a good grade point average (GPA), manage and balance their time in and outside of the classroom, and get involved. Although the U of U is a big school and can be intimidating to incoming international students, Minh believes that making friends and reaching out to professors, fellow classmates, roommates, and departments can help enhance international student’s experiences and help minimize culture shock.

After graduating, Minh plans on obtaining his Masters in Finance with hopes of studying on the east coast, again. Minh knows there are a lot of people at the U of U and Salt Lake who need help. The U of U has given Minh a lot of opportunities and he hopes to continue to give back to the U and his community through service.

Currently, Minh is involved with the Finance Club, iMentor program, the Bennion Center, and plays the piano at the U of U Hospital.

In his free time, Minh enjoys walking around downtown with friends, playing basketball, participating in service projects, playing the piano, cooking, trying new foods, and taking photographs.

Minh is passionate about college and his culture. He believes that not only do students learn about academics, but that students have the opportunity to learn about themselves by getting out of their comfort zone and getting to know a lot of people from different cultures and backgrounds. In college, students have the chance to meet new people and all students should take advantage of this opportunity. Minh believes there is no other country as diverse as the United States. He encourages international students to ask questions, learn as much as they can, and always try to learn new things. He believes students studying abroad can take the good from the new culture in which they are living, but never lose their own culture.
