Kersten is exploring a double major in Communications, with an emphasis in Strategic Communication and Sports Management within the Parks, Recreation and Tourism program at the University of Utah. After driving 17 hours straight to visit the University of Utah campus, she said that as soon as she stepped onto the U campus, she loved it and knew this is where she wanted to study.

After graduating, Kersten plans to become a publicist for an NHL team and would like to work with public relations in athletic departments at 4-year universities. Kersten is a student athlete and is a member of the Swim and Dive team at the University of Utah.

In her free time, Kersten participates with Student Athletic Mentors and helps children at Lincoln Elementary School enhance their math and readings skills along with volunteering her time at the animal shelter and participating in local food bank drives. Also, she enjoys photography and spending time with friends and teammates.

Kersten is passionate about sharing her experiences at the University of Utah with friends and encourages them to attend the University of Utah. She plans to continue serving her community by being involved in the University of Utah alumni association, and keep her ties with the Salt Lake community. She believes the community does so much to support her and wants to make her community a better place. Kersten believes that “If you love something, you’ll take pride in where you are”. She loves Salt Lake City and loves the University of Utah college experience.

The International Center Scholarship will help Kersten tremendously and she is very grateful to have the opportunity to receive the inaugural International Center Scholarship.
