She remembers how adapting to the new culture and campus activities was a great challenge during the first months, therefore she decided to participate as an Orientation Leader for the Utah Global Office in order to help incoming international students bridge such gap. Francisca is also actively involved with her peers as a Teaching Assistant at the Honors College, bringing to class discussion a different and culturally-diverse perspective for students, and helping prospect students with their admission process as an Admissions Assistant at the Admissions Office. Additionally, Francisca has done research with the College of Health in a wide variety of topics ranging from the impact of extreme environmental conditions on LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness to athletic injury impact.
Both the research projects and the leadership activities she has participated in helped her to recognize the importance of empathy and commitment with the community, just as she experienced when navigating the start of college education and adulthood in a foreign country.
