About the Theta Rho Chapter of Phi Beta Delta
The Theta Rho Chapter of Phi Beta Delta at the University of Utah seeks to honor individuals who are engaged in international education. Members include international, learning abroad, and international studies students and scholars, faculty and staff members in related fields are also welcome to apply. Membership is a prestigious recognition of those who have made significant contributions to fostering global awareness and academic excellence.
What to Expect
The Phi Beta Delta chapter at the University of Utah hosts events and conferences focused on international education. Our chapter aims to create a supportive community of scholars, where members can connect, mentor, and share their experiences with one another. Additionally, the chapter offers recognition through awards, member-only events, and leadership opportunities for students, faculty, and staff who join. Through these efforts, Phi Beta Delta strives to promote intercultural engagement and academic excellence at the University.

Application Process for Theta Rho Chapter of Phi Beta Delta
Membership is open to students, faculty, and staff who demonstrate a commitment to international education, intercultural engagement, and international scholarship.
Interested applicants are invited to complete an online application during the designated application period. The application typically includes basic personal information, a brief overview of academic or professional involvement, and a short statement describing interests in international education or global engagement.
All applications are reviewed by the chapter's executive board to ensure eligiblity and alignment with Phi Beta Delta's mission. Qualified applicants will be notified of their acceptance and provided with next steps, including membership fees and induction ceremony information.
Student Eligibility
- Undergraduate Student must have completed at least 30 hours of study and achieved a minimum 3.5 grade point average.
- Graduate students must have achieved a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average at the time of election to membership.
Leadership Opportunities
The Theta Ro chapter offers meaningful leadership opportunities for members who want to grow professionally, serve their campus, and support international education and intercultural exchange. Through leadership roles, members gain hands on experience in teamwork, communication, event planning, and advocacy, skills that extend far into careers.
Chapter Officer Positions
Members may apply or be elected to serve as chapter officers. These roles provide experience in organizational leadership and allow members to shape the direction of the chapter.
Typical officer roles may include:
- President: Leads chapter initiatives, presides over meetings, and represents the chapter at campus and national events.
- President-Elect: Works closely with the president to support chapter operations and ensure a smooth leadership transiton; prepares to assume the role of president in the following term.
- Vice President: Supports the president and president elect and oversees chapter committees and programming.
- Secretary: Maintains records, meeting minutes, and chapter communications.
- Treasurer: Oversees the chapter's financial matters, including managing the budget and ensuring the proper use of funds.
- Fundraising Lead:
- Membership Chair: Oversees recruitment, onboarding, and retention of chapter members. Promotes engagement opportunities, assists with member recognition, and helps ensure a welcoming environment for all members.
- Domestic Student Representative: Represents the perspectives and interests of domestic students within the chapter. Encourages U.S. student involvement activities and supports intercultural collaboration and dialogue.
- International Student Representative: Represents the perspectives and interests of international students within the chapter. Supports international student engagement, promotes cultural exchange, and helps amplifly international student voices within the chapter.

Current students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above to apply. Staff or faculty members involved in international and cultural exchange on campus can apply.
While Phi Beta Delta is a “Fraternity” it is an academic fraternity or honors society. That means one of its main focuses is celebrating scholarship, academic excellence and community engagement. While a social fraternity is largely focused on social events and philanthropy, an Honors Society serves as a conduit of recognition for our talented scholars on campus.
Any student, staff, or faculty member involved in international and cultural exchange on campus can join. This includes international students, students who have studied abroad, and students, faculty, and staff involved in international studies. You can join Phi Beta Delta at any point in your academic career and it is open to undergraduates, graduate students, faculty members, and even students who are in their last semester of school here at the U.
